Each intern receives a bi-weekly stipend to cover basic personal needs, and shares an intentional-community budget for common household expenses including food. Rent, utilities and medical insurance are all provided through the program. In addition, each intern receives MetroCards for the entire year, ensuring unlimited access to New York City’s excellent public transportation system. St. Mary’s is very close to busy subway stations, and is centrally located
among schools and seminaries.
Interns each have a single room with a bed, wardrobe, desk and chair. There is a communal eating/living area with a kitchenette. Interns enjoy high-speed wireless Internet.
Past interns have gone on to a variety of pursuits: graduate school/seminary, other volunteer/internship programs, and/or full-time work. NYIP’s professional, social and religious affiliations and contacts can help interns connect to New York City’s many resources and opportunities.
